Sorry I have been a little lax on updating everyone on here. Lately I have been swamped with a new racing series I put together for the PA, OH and WV Tri-State region. Hopefully tomorrow I can get a race report up and dig through all my photos for some action shots...

Had a great weekend at the 2nd Annual Mountaineer Trophy Race at WFO Raceway in Maidsville, WV. The day started out a little cool and breezy but turned into a beautiful day for racing!
In the first round of both e-buggy and e-truggy I pulled off the TQ with the cars being dialed to the racing surface. Which was very high slightly sugared surface. I knew I could maintain TQ with the very fast and consistent first rounds so I decided to try some different tires and compounds for round 2. First round I ran Red MegaBites and they were awesome! So in round #2 I wanted to see how well the soft GridIrons would do. They performed at about the same level as the MegaBites but came off nearly bald. Which I new that was going to happen running such a small pin. But man are they a fast tire compared to other like the Impacts or Blockades.
The second round in truggy didn't go all so well. At the start tone I set upon my journey of increasing my TQ. But that journey was short lived do to a rock getting jammed between the spur gear and chassis.
By the time the mains came around it was sundown and the track cooled off a bit. And so did my vision being I have a night blindness issue. I got to get to the eye doctors and get some glasses to correct the issue. So back on topic. I set out into the main with the EB48.2 wearing the red Megabites. The tires were a little loose do to the cooler temps but I needed to make sure I put a tire on that would last the whole 10 minutes. Even with a couple of bobbles I managed to take the win. The podium was nothing but Tekno's by the way.
In the e-truggy main the ET48 was super dialed tucking the corners better than the EB48.2 did. This thing turns better than anything I have driven before on such a high bite track! At the finish tone I came across the line one lap up on the field!
I would like to thank fellow Tekno team Driver Tyler Herwig for assisting in announcing the races and helping out other Tekno privateers with setups and driving tips! He is a true team driver and I really appreciate it that Tekno has him on the team!
Now I got to get my focus back on my racing series I created! This has been a tough 6 months with work (80 to 100 hours a week), family, racing and creating a series for all in the PA, WV and OH region to enjoy!!

Now I got to get my focus back on my racing series I created! This has been a tough 6 months with work (80 to 100 hours a week), family, racing and creating a series for all in the PA, WV and OH region to enjoy!!
Over the last 6 months I have been working on creating a racing series in the Southeast Ohio, Southwest PA and Northern WV area. The series (Tri-State RC Off-Road Championship Series) was created to bring racers into different racing facilities and show them what the facilities have to offer. Whether it be the type or size of the track, the level of competition or just the overall thrill of having fun with other RC hobbyists. The main goal of the series is to keep our local tracks open! I have seen many local tracks close up over the years due to lower and lower turn outs year after year.
I chose three tracks in the area that provide different surfaces, competition levels, and all over a different atmosphere. One of the tracks on the schedule is RCX213 in St. Clairsville, OH. This is a new start up track that is located in the Belmont fair grounds. The third track is McCullough's Off-Road Raceway in Sarver, PA. Home of the East Coast Race Against Cancer. And WFO Raceway in Maidsville, WV which held the series opener. We will race twice at each facility to bring them in additional funds to help keep their doors open or even give them a little more revenue to work with when doing upgrades.
The series races will not interfere with their existing schedules. Most of the tracks race on Saturdays. So to help them bring in the most revenue over the course of the weekend. We will be racing on Sunday. Except at RCX213 which has two major motocross races on their scheduled series race weekends.
At the end of the year we will tally up the points over the course of the series. And will hand out awards (Top 3 unless entries allow for Top 5) and other goodies to all that participate in the Youth and Sportsman Classes.
The series entry prices are the same at each facility. $22 for the first class of which $7 goes towards the series and $15 goes to the facility. The second class entry has a fee of $15 which $10 to the facility and $5 to the series. And any additional classes has an entry price of $10 of which is split between the series and facility.
Well after the little insight you just read on the series I put together for all the racers and these three awesome facilities. Here is my race report from the first round.
This past Sunday (May 4th) was the opener of the series. The race was held at WFO Raceway in Maidsville, WV. With the high chance of rain we still had a decent turn out of about 60 entries. Lower than what was expected but then again no one knows what mother nature will do when the meteorologists can't even agree with each other. And on top of that I knew of about 14 people who were not able to attend the race due to work or family related plans.
Opening up the first round of qualifiers I set the early TQ in both E-buggy (E-scale as we call it) and E-truggy. Both of these TQ runs would hold up going into the Main. The buggy and truggy were spot on and handled extremely well!
Going into the E-truggy A-Main 4 out of the 6 in the race were ET48's. I was starting on pole with fellow Tekno teammate Tyler Herwig right behind me. At the tone we slowly pulled away only to get caught up into each other then I had a data communication issue between my brain and transmitter. Letting Tyler past me for the lead. We battled back and forth putting on a good show until he bumped a tube and swung wide allowing me to dip inside for the lead and the win. Tyler is getting better and better running the truggy class. His first race in truggy was back in February at Motorama and he improves every time I race with him!!! He's gonna be hard to beat once he gets his setup to his liking!
The final race of the day was the A-main on e-scale. Just like the truggy race the buggy race was loaded with Teknos. Four of the seven in the race were Teknos. The start of the race was a little hectic with a spin out in the second corner which created a traffic jam and allowed two drivers from the back of the pack to move out in the lead. With nearly all 10 minutes left in the race I knew I still had a chance. Two laps later I managed to get out into the lead. Lap after lap I extended my lead little by little until mother nature decided it was best to blow a gust of wind (we had 40mph wind gusts) while I was setting sail over the triple. In which allowed 2nd place to move up and pass me.
Frustrated I started making little mistakes every time I would catch back up to first place. Another great battle was in the brewing. At one point I fell back off of the 1st place driver by almost 8 seconds. But was able to catch back up to him a few laps later. This time I kept my cool and applied the pressure waiting for him to make a mistake. And he did so I took back 1st place and held it too the line! Even though I was happy with my finish, my medium compound Impacts were not. As they were brand new at the start of the race and came off with about 30% of the tread left.
Tekno took all three podium spots in both e-truggy and e-scale.
With the first round in the books and my nerves relaxed worrying about whether this series would happen or not. I can say I am thankful to our local racers and facilities! With out everyones dedication to the hobby we would be in the back yard seeing who can backflip the most times while hitting and riding up the trees.
I am looking forward to Round #2 at McCullough's Off-Road on June 8th! I hope our turn outs improve or at least stay consistent with each round!!
